In early December, DIP-IN Neighborhood Community Health Worker, Ron Rice, was recognized with the 2022 Mayor’s Community Service Award alongside other awardees.
This annual award recognizes 10 Indianapolis residents "who have volunteered their time and talents towards the betterment of Indianapolis and those who call it home." Ron was recognized in multiple categories, including Elderly, Neighborhoods, Youth, and Arts.
Those who work with Ron know that he represents the Near Northwest to achieve better health and quality of life within and beyond these categories. DIP-IN partner Ashley Gurvitz was also awarded, being recognized in the Neighborhoods category.
We are so proud to have our DIP-IN partners acknowledged for their work! As an additional recognition, each awardee will have their name engraved on an individual brick that will be laid in the downtown canal walk in the Mayor’s Volunteer Plaza.
In addition to his neighborhood community health worker role for DIP-IN, Ron also serves as the community builder for the Near Northwest and serves on multiple organizational boards. Most recently, as of February 1, Ron has started a new role with DIP-IN as the Near Northwest project manager.
Through this role, Ron will be expanding on his former position as neighborhood community health worker to work more closely with the Near Northwest DIP-IN Steering Committee and project partners. Congrats, Ron!
