Sunday Supper Season

Another successful season of Sunday Suppers came to a celebratory close on October 15 with the final DIP-IN sponsored supper.

In 2021, the Near Northwest community identified a need in their area to provide older adults with more opportunities for social connection and activity, particularly needed due to isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This identified need developed into Sunday Suppers—an event put on by Aspire House and sponsored by DIP-IN—that provided the Near Northwest community with a healthy catered dinner once a month at Frank Young Park, coupled with an activity, such as double dutch jump roping, dancing, games, information about diabetes, other resources, and more.

However, what initially started out as an event for older residents quickly turned into an opportunity that drew Near Northwest residents of all ages.

The event garnered so much community attention and support that for the 2022 season, Indianapolis organizations both within and outside the Near Northwest helped to sponsor the monthly suppers, including Citizens Energy, Marian University, and more.

The final supper held in October was sponsored by the DIP-IN Near Northwest Steering Committee and drew over 150 attendees.

DIP-IN fitness instructors did class demonstrations, other games like cornhole and pickleball were available, wellness booths were on site for basic health screenings, and Aspire House invited attendees to tour the community garden.

The supper also coincided with the centennial celebration of Frank Young Park and a proclamation from the mayor’s office that October 15 be recognized moving forward as Frank Young Park Day.

DIP-IN is energized to see this event turn into a true community celebration in just a couple of years and we are excited to see what the next Sunday Supper season has in store!

Pro tip: Check out the Aspire House website in spring 2023 to see the posted dates of the next suppers.
