Partner feature: Marion County Public Health Department Nutrition Services

instructor at food safety class

Since 2022, the Near West, Near Northwest, and Northeast steering committees have partnered with Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) Nutrition Services to provide free nutrition education at local parks and libraries in the DIP-IN communities.

Residents can register each month for a class featuring a unique nutrition topic. Alongside a team member from MCPHD Nutrition Services, residents will observe cooking demonstrations, sample dishes, receive recipes, and have a chance to win free giveaways (think: crockpots!).

Late 2023 and 2024 classes will be held each month at Haughville Library, Municipal Gardens, Rhodius Park, and Washington Park. Interested residents can call Indy Parks (317-327-7275) or Haughville Library (317-275-4420) to register.

Upcoming classes include December’s “Mealtime Matters” and January’s “Healthy Nutrition Habits.” For more class information, check out DIP-IN's Facebook and Instagram pages.

In addition to nutrition classes, MCPHD Nutrition Services is supported by the DIP-IN steering committees to continue their work with food pantries in the communities around education and healthy food access. Additionally, they are available to provide nutrition education consults to community organizations and partners working in the DIP-IN communities to improve the local nutrition education and food environment.

We are excited to partner for a third year with MCPHD Nutrition Services. Please check out their class offerings for the coming year and follow DIP-IN on social media for more health and nutrition-related content.
