The morning after our energizing All Steering Committee meeting, the DIP-IN team was able to continue the celebration with the walking trail and labyrinth groundbreaking at the future Evolve Education Center, a project funded by the Northeast DIP-IN Steering Committee.

Pastor Denell Howard, who is a pastor at Hovey Street Church and leader of the future Evolve Education Center, and his community partner, Autumn Lowry of From the Ground Up Foods, have a plan to beautify and grow the exterior space of what will be the future Center.

The vision for the Center is that it will be a community hub in the Northeast and the trail and labyrinth are important to making this vision a reality. Currently, the property already has an urban farm called the Plant to Plate Project. While the produce and eggs are already sold and donated through various community outlets, Plant to Plate will one day have a kitchen space at the Evolve Education Center, where community members can learn how to prepare meals from “Plant to Plate.”

In addition to the walking trail, labyrinth, and urban farm, there are many exciting things planned for the future Center. Pastor Howard, Autumn, DIP-IN Northeast Steering Committee Chair Martha Bonds, and Heath Landscaping, who will be completing the work for the trail and labyrinth, all spoke at the groundbreaking regarding the impact of this funding.

We are excited to continue to see the amazing work unfold at this community site and will continue to provide updates via this newsletter and social media as the trail and labyrinth are completed. If you want to learn more about Plant to Plate, From the Ground up Foods, or DIP-IN funding to support this work, check out the February 2024 issue of our DIP-IN newsletter.
